Alternatives are available

There is no need to still drive on diesel and petrol: alternatives are available. Tested and proven. A wide range of cars, for example, that run on Biomethane/CNG are available from various manufacturers and a country-wide network of fuel stations is ready. An increasing number of 100% electric vehicles are available and the number of public charging points is increasing rapidly. A number of brands are already producing hydrogen vehicles. Two hydrogen fuel stations are already operational in the Netherlands. In Helmond and Rhoon. PitPoint is working on expanding this as soon as possible.span>


Diesel is the most common fuel for heavy-duty road vehicles. The disadvantages are becoming ever more relevant. One of the most important disadvantages is the emissions of particulate matter, NOx and CO2 during combustion. The Euro 6 standard for light passenger and commercial vehicles that was introduced in 2014 requires new and costly post-treatment technology for diesel engines. Transport on CNG and LNG already meets the proposed Euro 6 emission requirements. The implementation of these fuels makes your business sustainable and customers increasingly take this into account when selecting a supplier.

Cleaner air for the public areas

Municipalities and public transport companies can contribute towards improving air quality by switching to Biomethane/CNG engines, 100% electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel vehicles. These transport services can also serve as an example to business and private car owners and drivers. The most appropriate fuel will depend on each individual situation. A wide range of business cases are available regarding urban buses, street-cleaning vehicles and taxis that successfully switched to Biomethane/CNG.


It is cleaner on LNG and Biomethane/CNG.

As from 2016 vessels must meet the stricter IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standard requirements in order to travel in Emission Control Areas. The new standard requires a 75% decrease in nitrogen oxide emissions compared to IMO Tier II NOx. This effect is not feasible through tuning of existing technology. The diesel engines would have to be equipped with costly post-treatment systems. Unless shipping companies decide to address the issues at the source and decide to use a different fuel: LNG or Biomethane/CNG. Sailing on these fuels, in most cases, does not require exhaust gas post-treatment to meet and exceed the IMO Tier III NOx emission standard requirements. LNS is also more affordable making a return on investment of a few years that also lowers operational costs. There are successful LNG and Biomethane/CNG business cases within all types of shipping industry companies.
